A recent Wall Street Journal article highlighted Caltech Manufacturing's use of Vectis Automation welding automation for continued manufacturing reshoring efforts. According to the article, Caltech’s productivity gains from automation have enabled them to reshore production of critical parts that previously would not have been made domestically.
“[Caltech Manufacturing] employs more than 80 people and, in the span of just a few years, has added a half-dozen [Vectis Automation] welding robots alongside a menagerie of other automation systems … Caltech Manufacturing has seen an increase in per-worker productivity of between two and four times, while expanding its workforce, he adds.”

Caltech is one of the many American manufacturers leveraging Vectis cobot tools to take on larger jobs that, before automation, would have been difficult to quote competitively.
The productivity gains highlighted in the article reflect a broader shift occurring across North American manufacturing. By combining skilled welders with flexible cobot automation, fabricators can increase productivity, maintain quality, and expand capacity without sacrificing workforce growth. This added capacity is enabling manufacturers to respond to reshoring opportunities and remain competitive in an increasingly demanding market.
